A few years ago, cloud was synonymous with services like AWS EC2. Once cloud had become more established, other vendors like Microsoft and IBM started adding operating systems and other services to the barebones virtual infrastructure, and PaaS was born. This simplified the job for developers, but our research found that many decision makers don’t think in terms of PaaS vs IaaS at all; instead they look for a service and vendor capable of meeting their specific needs now and into the future.

To confuse matters further, PaaS is morphing into SaaS as vendors such as Salesforce and Workday have started offering up their platforms to developers, and these days there’s almost nothing that can’t have the suffix “as a service” bolted on to it.

This report covers the following areas:

  • The current and future state of the cloud IaaS and PaaS market, including major growth areas and pain points for IT leaders.
  • Disproving the myth of ‘always-on’ availability.
  • Analysis of every major vendor in the space, including customer satisfaction levels, pricing information and reasons for not adopting.
